The Anglo-Saxon period went from 446-1066. It was a time of epic poems, lyric poems, and even riddles. Most of which were anonymous. They believed in epic heroes, monsters, kings and queens, and even treasures. Tests of courage and bravery were often rewarded treasures of some sort. They also greatly believed in fate, or wyrd, and in god. Everything to them happened for a reason. A heroic warrior’s fate was to beat their opponent in a battle of courage, bravery, wit, and strength. Before their beliefs of Christianity grew, they were very violent people. The Anglo-Saxons originated in northern Europe but when the invasion broke out, they settled on the eastern and southern shores of Britain. |
